When a small group of people came together in 1982 to start Christ Apostolic Church in the Washington area, little did they know the PLAN of God. This gathering was the birth of Christ Apostolic Church in the Washington metropolitan area. Soon this modest congregation journeyed from an apartment to a two-storey building located at 1545 6th Street NW, Washington DC.
1992 was a trying period for the assembly due to an administrative conflict which later caused majority of the members to move out of 1545 6th St church to continue their services at Armstrong Adult Education center building on 3rd and O St, NW. A couple of months later, the church was able to secure a space at African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church building on 11th and M street, NW Washington DC.
In October 1995 we moved out of AME church as a tenant to our own building located at 4909 Edmonston Road, Hyattsville, MD. As soon as we moved into the building we realized that this 500 seating capacity would need to be doubled or tripled. There was just not enough room to cater to the strength the congregation we had grown into. Thus the race began for new place of worship.
The leadership of the church deliberated upon a series of architectural designs and finally settled on what we now have. This design has two phases.
Phase I
The first phase is currently under construction. In this building, we have offices, meeting rooms, a multipurpose room with a capacity for 400 people. The cost to build this phase is estimated at $2.7M with all external works included. Members of this church have been so generous and COMMITTED to the work of God and have determined that this first phase is completed this summer 2008.This phase is 85% completed and it is note-worthy to mention here that funds so far have come from members of this church. This phase by Gods grace will be commissioned soon Amen
Phase II
The second phase of this project would be the Sanctuary. This phase is scheduled to start immediately after phase I is completed. The estimated cost is $2.5M.
On this note, we are asking you to be part of this project to glorify the name of God. As God lays it in your heart please contribute towards this project. God has an agenda and we know you are in that agenda. Do you want to see what others cannot see? So bless the lord with your substance and he will surprise you.
(2 Kings 6:17). The Lord will continue to be your strength, your rock, and your shield and fortress.
